Abstract:
| This report is based on six primary interviews conducted with American and European rheumatology thought leaders in March/Early April 2010. Our in-depth discussions include key development activities in the rheumatology pipeline, perspectives on unmet needs and how different mechanisms are likely to address these, and updates on most promising compounds in development. The Panel also addresses potential winners and losers under increasing healthcare cost pressures in the U.S. and Europe. See brochure for companies/compounds discussed. |

Abstract:
| This report is based on 6 interviews conducted with American and European rheumatology thought leaders following the American College of Rheumatology (ACR) 2009 meeting. The Panel highlights key learnings from the meeting, focusing on data that suggests any advantage for newer biologicals and small molecules compared to the standards of care for the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis. The Thought Leaders also provide insight into divergent activities and results pertaining to lupus, vasculitis, polymyositis and scleroderma.

Abstract:
| To develop this analysis, the 25th in our Rheumatology series, we conducted a thought exercise with North American (n=4) and European (n=4) rheumatologists in March 2009. The purpose was to identify their “must have” branded and generic drugs for their real-world practice in the year 2015. In this report we share each Panelist’s “Fantasy Formulary”, and the strengths, weaknesses and product news for each pharmacotherapy that is mentioned.
Each Panelist was given an extensive list of currently marketed and pipeline pharmacotherapeutics that we have been tracking in the rheumatology space. Panelists were given a few days to consider this list and formulate their top ten formulary drugs for the year 2015 (“5-7 years from now”). See brochure for more details. |

Abstract:
| Rheumatology Thought Leader Panel #24 is derived from interviews with six North American (3) and European (3) rheumatologists conducted immediately following ACR 2008. The Panel begins with an in-depth look at new pharmacotherapies for the prevention or treatment of gout. The incidence of gout is clearly increasing as the age and number of patients with chronic illness, metabolic syndrome/obesity and transplants rises. The societal cost of the disease is significant. In men gout is now the most common inflammatory disorder. Hyperuricemia associated with gout is a risk factor for hypertension, heart and kidney disease, and lower health related quality of life. Net, there is an increased interest in managing not just gout but the state of hyperuricemia which predisposes to gout. See brochure for more details. |
